John Henry Glenn was born December 1, 1941, in Winnsboro, SC to the late Ernest (Doc) and Martha Glenn. He went to his heavenly home on October 17, 2023.
John was educated in the Fairfield County public school system and graduated from McCorey-Liston High School in 1960. He enlisted in the United States Army in 1962 and served one tour in Germany. John Henry was honorably discharged from active duty at Ft. Dix, NJ in 1965. In 1976 he joined the SC Army National Guard and in 1978 transferred to the US Army Reserve. Prior to his retirement in 2001, he was a Drill Sergeant at the 108th Training Command.
John worked for SCE&G in Columbia, SC as a bus driver and later worked as a lineman for the Fairfield County Electric Cooperative in Winnsboro, SC. He received an Associate Degree of Industrial Electricity from Midland Technical College in 1985. He retired from the Fairfield County Electric Cooperative in June 2002.
He was a faithful member of Shiloh Presbyterian Church of Winnsboro, SC. He served as a Trustee, Church Treasurer and member of the Men’s and Gospel Choirs. He was a lifetime member of the Fidelity Lodge F&AM, PHA in Winnsboro, SC.
He leaves to cherish his memory his children: John H. Glenn Jr. (Geraldine), Winnsboro, SC; Vickie Glenn, Winnsboro, SC; Grandchildren John H. Glenn III, Jasmine, Gabrielle, TaMika, Rahiem and Miracle Glenn; Brothers: Casper, Charles, Douglas, Robert Paul, Otis, Mark, George, and Larry Glenn; Sister: Althea G. Watson. He was pre-deceased by his son Vincent Glenn.
Funeral services for Mr. Glenn will be 11:00 AM Wednesday, October 25, 2023, at , Shiloh Presbyterian Church in Winnsboro, SC. Internment with full military honors will follow at 2:00 PM at the Fort Jackson National Cemetery, Columbia, SC. Visitation will be Tuesday October 24, 2023 from 5 PM to 6:30 PM. Masonic rites @ 6:30 to 7 PM , then visitation will resume until 7:30 PM.
