Mrs. Mattie Cohen Obituary

Sister Mattie J Cohen was born May 25, 1926, to the late Arthur and Sylvia Johnson of Winnsboro, SC. She departed her earthly life on December 17, 2017 at home surrounded by family. She was married to the late Albert Cohen. Sister Cohen was a member of Progressive Church of Winnsboro where she was baptistized in the name of our Lord Savior Jesus the Christ and received the gift of the Holy Ghost according to Acts 2:38. She was a faithful dedicated member until her health declined. She was a compassionate hard worker with a love for cooking, and retired from Tanglewood Healthcare. She spent her retirement nurturing the next generation of our family as a caregiver. Mattie was the cake lady of the family who had a special talent of creating delectable desserts for anyone in the family to enjoy. Sister Mattie Cohen will be missed dearly by her family, friends, and those in the body of Christ. She is survived by three children Rosetta Squirewell of Ridgeway,SC, Preston Anthony Cohen of Winnsboro, SC and Michael Eugene Cohen of Columbia, SC. Eleven grandchildren, Rufus Ford (Stephanie) of Cary, NC, Kenneth P. Squirewell, Jr., and Ronathan D. Squirewell (Chandra) both of Ridgeway, SC, Sylvia R. Squirewell of Lancaster, SC, Courtney Davis (Danny) of Columbia, SC, Ashley Cohen of Columbia, SC, Jamar Moore of Hampton, VA, Whitney Dykes, James Cohen, Micah Cohen, and Ryen Cohen all of Columbia, SC. She also leaves twelve great- grandchildren. Two beloved sisters: Willie Mae McCants and Jessie Johnson of Winnsboro, SC and a host of relatives and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband Albert Cohen, one son James Cohen, five brothers James, Sam, Joseph, Isiah, and Moses: seven sisters Bernice, Lula Mae, Hattie, Eloise, Susie Mae Belton, Roberta Brakefield, and Janie Bell Ford. Funeral service will be 2:00pm Thursday December 21, 2017 @ Fairview Independent Church. Burial will be @ Fairfield Community Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday December 20, 2017 from 1:00pm to 7:00pm @ Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home, 324 S. Vanderhorst St. Winnsboro SC 29180
