Mrs. Martha "Mot" Trapp Obituary

Martha “Mot” Helen McConnell Trapp, 72, died on October 25, 2020 at the Newberry County Hospital, Newberry South Carolina.  She was born in Fairfield County to Carrie Louise Williams McConnell and the late Thomas Jason McConnell, Jr. 

 She confessed and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age and became a member of Weeping Mary Baptist Church, Blair, SC (Shelton Community) she was a member of the Gospel Choir, Usher Board Ministry, Assistant Secretary, WMBC Vacation Bible School Coordinator and the Teacher for Children Church. 

Martha attended the public schools of Fairfield County and was a 1966 graduate of McCrorey Liston High School in Blair, South Carolina, where she met her high school sweetheart her husband Robert “Gebo” Trapp.  After working as a substitute teacher at her alma matar she realize her passion to serve children through education. She enrolled in college at Allen University, Columbia SC, and graduated in 1984 Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor degree in Education. While at Allen she pledged Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, Fall ’83 (Silver Star).  Upon graduating from Allen, she began teaching in Fairfield County public schools (McCrorey -Liston high school, Mt. Zion Elementary and Fairfield Intermediate) where in 1993 she was awarded Teacher of the Year.  Martha decided to further her education.  She attended Cambridge College in Boston Massachusetts where she graduated in 1996 with a Master degree in Education.  After a decline in health she retired from Fairfield County Public School System in 2000. 

Martha always believed in helping others in any way she could.  She was a Notary Public that happily served the Blair community which allowed her to meet many people that touched her life as well as she touched their lives.

In 2000 Martha was diagnosed with Polymyositis.  Having this condition made it rough, but she always had faith and trust in God that he would see her through. 

Although she is gone, she will be greatly missed by her family and friends and although this condition made it difficult for her to do everyday tasks she didn’t let it affect her attitude. She made the best of days when she didn’t feel well, she pressed on in spite of with God being her constant rock in her life that she called on and prayed to every step of the way.   She was also a breast cancer survivor of 7 years.  Martha always wore a beautiful smile and was a joy to be around.  We all have fun and special lifelong memories of her to cherish.

To know Martha was to love her.  She was an amazing wonderful wife, and the “World’s Best Mother” she was a fun loving person, who was outgoing, happy and upbeat with a smile, who never met a stranger, her positive presence were felt by all those who came into contact with her. She loved the Lord, she loved and adored her entire family, her WMBC church family, her community, her life and people in general. 

She was preceded in death by her daughter Rita Renea Trapp, her father Thomas Jason McConnell, Jr., her brother in-laws Walter James Roseborough and James Alfred Griffin. 

Martha leaves to cherish her loving memories to her family, her devoted husband of 53 years, Robert Edward Trapp, loving children, Crystal Clarisse Trapp, of the home; Tarrence Edward Trapp, Columbia SC; loving and caring mother, Carrie Louise Williams McConnell, Blair SC; loving niece like a daughter, Sherry (Kenneth) Davis, Columbia, Maryland; god granddaughter, Darissa J. Stones; god great-grandson Karmelo A. Wadsworth, Jenkinsville, SC; one sister, Delois Ann Roseborough, Winnsboror, SC and three brothers, Willie Earl McConnell, Chester SC; Jessie James McConnell and Thomas Jason (Elizabeth) McConnell, III, Blair, SC.  Two aunts Sadie Beal, Winston Salem, NC; Nezzie Coleman McConnell, Blair, SC;  Two brother in-laws, Clarence J. Griffin, Atlanta Georgia; Clemente’ (Fannie) Griffin, Columbia, SC; five sister in-laws, Beverly Henderson, Sheila English; Stephanie Griffin and Debbie Griffin, all of Blair, SC and Sharon L. Griffin Columbia, SC; Honorary granddaughters Iyanna Purnell and Courtney Epps, Irmo SC.  Martha will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.

Graveside service will be 11:00 AM Friday October 30, 2020 @ McConnell Cemetery, 85 Clayton Depot Rd. Blair SC 29015. Visitation will be Thursday October 29, 2020 from 1 PM to 7 PM @ Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home Chapel.
