Mrs. Mae Bess McCullough departed her earthly life on September3, 2024 and transitioned into eternal life surrounded by her daughters. She was born in Fairfield County on June 15, 1928, the oldest of seven children born to Annie Lou Mills Goodwin, who preceded her death. Mrs. Mae Bess was also preceded in death by the love of her life, her husband, David McCullough Jr, a daughter, Jessie McCullough James, a son, James H. McCullough, two sisters and three brothers.
Mrs. Mae Bess truly loved the Lord, and kept him close to her heart, and was a diligent and devoted worker and member of Small Chapel AME Zion Church in Winnsboro SC until her health begin to fail her.
She was well known as a loving and caring person to all who encountered her. She was very giving and a forgiving person. She was often teased as being the “community nurse” because she gave love and care to anyone who was in need. She was a caregiver to anyone who crossed her path that was ill in anyway and she asked nothing in return. She didn’t like to see anyone hungry or suffering, and when she did, she would open her heart and with out-stretched hands. She loved people and she never met a stranger, to know her is to love her.
Mrs. Mae Bess was a good devoted, loving and caring mother, she loved her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren with a passion.
Mae Bess leaves to cherish her beloved fond memories, five daughters, Hattie Mills of Hartford CT, Lula Dillon of Charlotte NC, Mary M. Johnson of Columbia SC, Sarah Boulware of Columbia SC, and Lillie Evans of Blythewood SC, two sons, Billy Ellis of Baltimore MD, and David McCullough III of Winnsboro SC, one sister, Lillie Mae Goodwin of Hartford CT, and a cherished nephew, Donnell Alston of Florida. A close and devoted daughter of the heart, Pamela Gaither, a devoted and loving caregiver Tonya Simon, and Precious Adult Day Care for them being dedicated to her care, and a host of cousins, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great grandchildren.
