Mrs. MaDora (Watkins) Peay

Mrs. MaDora Watkins Peay was born July 31, 1931 in Winnsboro, SC. She was the middle child of eight children born to the late John Steve and Eloise Jordan Watkins. She passed away at her home with her loving husband on Tuesday, October 3, 2023 by her side. 

MaDora was a member of St. John Baptist church where she served as a member of the Missionary Circle, part of the culinary ministry, and served as Mother of Church. MaDora was educated in the Fairfield County School System. She worked as a seamstress for 17 years before her vision failed. MaDora was well known for many things, but everybody knew her for her delicious cakes and pies.

MaDora is survived by her loving husband of 73 years Monroe Peay Jr.  She is preceded in death by her parents John Steve and Eloise Jordan Watkins. Siblings steel birth baby brother, John David, Florence, Joseph, Heyward, Louise, and Margaret.. She is survived by her brother Arthur Mack Watkins, her seven children Johnnie Ann, Melvin, Ella Laverne (Johnny) Woodard, Brenda (Jimmy)Grooms, Doris, Cynthia, Jocelyn (Trevor) Belton, 14 grandchildren, 31 great-grandchildren, 6 great-great grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.

Funeral service will be 1pm Monday October 9, 2023 @ St. John Baptist Church Anderson Quarry with burial in the church cemetery. Visitation will be Sunday October 8, 2023 from 3pm to 8pm @ Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home, 324 S. Vanderhorst St. Winnsboro SC 29180.
