Janie Katherine (Henderson) Gambrell departed this life on Monday, October 4, 2021 at Prisma Hospital. She was born to the late Wade and Meater (Friday) Henderson on March 21, 1942.
Janie Katherine graduated from Morris College located in Sumter, S.C. with a Bachelor of Science degree in Teaching Education. After college she moved to Richmond Virginia where she taught as a teacher in the district of Richmond Virginia.
After retiring as a teacher, she returned to Jenkinsville, SC where she met the love of her life Josephus Gambrell at the Johnson Store.
She was employed at Yarbrough Store, Johnson Store, Shell Gas Station, Glenn’s 6 to 10, Citgo Gas Station, BP Gas Station, Corner Pantry and Jenkinsville Exxon Station. Truly she enjoyed working as a manager and meeting people.
Janie loved the Lord and served as a faithful member of her church. She was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. James D. Lee where she became Head Deaconess.
In addition to her parents and late husband Josephus Gambrell, she was predeceased by seven brothers, Willie, Clyde, John, Lionell, Moses, Bennie Lee, and Jacob Henderson; also, one sister, Alberta H. James.
Those left to cherish her memories:
Her brother, James Henderson, White Rock, S.C.; two sisters: Mattie Thompson and Mary Henderson, Jenkinsville, S.C.; two special nieces, Melinda Martin and Jalisa James and two special nephews, Antonio Cook and Brandon Pierre Sharpe. She had a host of nephews, nieces, and a goddaughter, Jessica Thompson (Niece), cousins, three close friends-Betty Kinard, Delois Rackard, and Debra Harper Myers.
Funeral service will be 2 pm Sunday October 10, 2021 @ Mt. Moriah Baptist Church with burial in the Church Cemetery, 8588 SC 215 Jenkinsville SC 29065. Visitation will be Saturday October 9, 2021 from 3 pm to 6 pm @ Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home, 324 S. Vanderhorst St. Winnsboro SC 29180.
