Mrs Gwendolyn Boykin Obituary

Gwendolyn Elizabeth Louallen Boykin was born on September 12 1953, in Washington, DC to the late Reverend Moses A. and Beulah Threatt Louallen. She departed this life on Wednesday, April 1, 2026 in Columbia, South Carolina.

Mrs. Boykin’s formal education was in the Chesterfield County Public School System. After graduating from Pageland High School, she attended Friendship College and received her associate degree in Rock Hill, SC and Benedict College where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree.

Gwen had a passion for fashion, and everything had to match. She believed that everything had to coordinate from the hat to the shoes. She loved everything that sparkled. She never met a stranger and her smile was contagious. She was like our father, she loved everybody.

At an early age Gwen joined Flint Ridge Baptist Church and she gave life to Christ. She continued on her christian journey in Columbia, SC and joined Victory Faith Fellowship and Gunter’s Chapel Baptist Church. She worked in various ministries, Missionary, Usher Board, Musical Choir and Gospel. She was an active member of the Empowered Women of Service, the pastor’s search committee and other committees. Gwen was an active participant in Sunday School and Bible Study, and she enjoyed fellowshipping with her church family and took pride in helping to pay off the church mortgage. She was very excited about being a blessing to her church family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Aaron H. Louallen and Walter A. Louallen, and brother-in-law Rev. Maurice Watts and Willie Boykin and a sister-in-law Lillian Boykin.

Gwen was a loving wife and was married for 30 years to Ronald David Boykin.

She leaves to cherish her memory: Ronald Boykin; two sisters, Daphne L. Watts and Maeretta Louallen, nieces and nephews Dr. LaShonda L. Eaddy (Dr. Jack), Joshua N. Louallen, Hannah P. Watts, and Christian C. Louallen; great-nieces and great-nephew Jillian & Jordyn Eaddy, Jocelyn & Avery Louallen; two aunts, Doretha T. Jordan, and Pansy T. Evans: brother-in-law James Robert Boykin and a host of other family and friends.

Visitation will be Wednesday April 8, 2026 from 5 pm to 8 pm @ Gunter Chapel Baptist Church.
