Mrs. Dorothy "Minnie Ruth" (Banks) Gaither

Mrs. Dorothy Banks Gaither (Minnie Ruth) was born on November 13, 1937 to the late Mr. Heyward Banks Sr. and Mrs. Parrie Nease Goodwin Banks in Winnsboro, South Carolina. Dorothy transitioned to our Heavenly Father on May 2, 2021 at Providence Health-Northeast Hospital in Columbia, SC.

She was educated in the Fairfield County School System and was a devout Christian until her last moments. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, caregiver, and friend, there was nothing she wouldn’t do for anyone.

On July 3, 1953 she married the love of her life, Mr. Lawrence E. Gaither Jr. and to this union 6 boys and 1 girl were born.

She was predeceased by her mother, Parrie Nease, her father, Heyward Sr., her husband, Lawrence Jr., and her sons, Keith, Gregory, and Terry.

Dorothy leaves to cherish her beautiful memories:  her daughter, Gwendolyn (Paul) Holmes; her sons:  Lawrence (Brenda) Gaither, Lafayette Gaither, and Steven (Sophia Goodwin) Gaither; she leaves her sister Mae Hazel (Willie) Roseborough; her brother, Heyward (Mary Lou) Banks Jr., and her sister-in-law, Helen Washington. She also leaves her grandchildren:  Janice Benbow (Eugene Hopkins), Chrishonda Gaither (Marvin Jeter), Natasha Gaither, Lashonda (Shawn) Crosby, Paul (Crystal) Holmes Jr., Cobin Holmes, Lisa Hill and Kalisha Gaither; her great-grandchildren:  Sebastian Heath, Acelynn Sampson, De’Yonta Sampson, Najee Campbell, Jordain Campbell, Wesley Benbow, Jabrandis Benbow, Margo Benbow, Lindee Benbow, Naivee Hopkins, Elijah Holmes, Nova Crosby, and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

She will be missed by all and as the scripture says, “Well Done Thy Good and Faithful Servant.”

Graveside service will be 11 am Thursday May 6, 2021 @ St John AME Church, 2740 Old Camden Rd. Winnsboro SC 29180 with burial in the Church Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday May 5, 2021 from 12 noon to 7 pm @ Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home, 324 S. Vanderhorst St. Winnsboro SC 29180.
