Mrs. Betty McCutchen Obituary

 

Betty Miller McCutchen was born on July 23, 1941 in Columbia, SC. to Rev. Robert Miller and Angeline Murray Miller.

Betty and her family attended St. John Baptist Church where she was baptized at an early age.   As an adult, she joined Sydney Park C.M.E. Church where she served faithfully for several years. Later, she and her children joined Bethlehem Baptist Church where she was an active and faithful member.  Before her illness, Betty served on the Usher Board, Women's Ministry and was active in the Missionary Ministry. As a member of the Missionary Ministry, she helped to feed the homeless and visited with the elderly in nursing homes. She also was active in the Exercise Ministry and led fitness classes at Wiley Kennedy Fitness Center. She was also a fitness instructor at Greenview Park. Betty loved the Lord, and she loved serving and helping others in her community. 

She was a graduate of C. A. Johnson High School, and she attended Allen University.

 For thirty years, she worked in Richland School District One. She was the secretary at Burton Elementary School. After retiring, she volunteered in Richland County Schools as a tutor and Administrative Clerk.

 She was preceded in death by her daughter Lorna McCutchen and her parents, Rev. Robert Miller and Angeline Miller.

 After an extended illness, Betty peacefully transitioned on May 4, 2020. She leaves to cherish her memory her son William McCutchen, Jr. of Columbia, S. C.; reared in the home, Jarvis McCutchen, one brother, Robert (Ruby) Miller of Atlanta, Ga.; four sisters, Ethel (David) Woodard of Bowie, Md., Mary McClellan, Janie Fair, Pamela Miller, all of Columbia, S.C.; one sister-in-law, Evelene McCutchen of Washington, D. C.; best friend Sandy Phillips of Cocoa Beach, Fl.; grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends, all of whom will miss her dearly.

A private graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM on Friday May 8, 2020 @ Memorial Gardens of Columbia, S.C. A viewing will be held Thursday May 7, 2020 from 5:00 PM to 7:00 PM @ Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home Chapel, 324 South Vanderhorst Winnsboro, S.C. 29180.
