Mrs. Barnell Rice Obituary

Mrs. Barnell Rice, 76, was the daughter of the late Lonzell “Pop” Brown and Marie Foster Brown, was born April 24, 1944 in Blackstock , SC.  She went home to be with the Lord, surrounded by her children at her home on West College Street, Winnsboro on Sunday, September 26, 2020.

Barnell was a faithful employee of the Fairfield County School District, working as a cafeteria worker until she retired.  During the summer months she continued to work at Camp Lavida in White Oak, SC as a cafeteria worker as well.

Barnell loved cooking homemade meals.  Her home was always filled with children, family, friends, and members of her community; she never turned anyone away.  Barnell always gave to others without question or hesitation—never asking for anything in return. 

Barnell was preceded in death by her sister, Ella Ree Young (Thomas); brother, Walter Stevenson, Sr. (Ossie B); aunts Tillie Armstrong and Jessie Mae Rice.

Barnell was married to the late Hosea Rice, Sr. and to this union 7 children were born:    Christina, Hosea, Jr. (Teresa), MikeArthur (deceased), Joseph, Randy (Maggie), Brenda, and Calvin (Kindra) all of Winnsboro, SC.  In addition to her six surviving children, Barnell leaves to cherish fond memories:  14 grandchildren, 13 great grandchildren; brother, Lonzell Brown (Leila), sister, Mary Rice (Rev. David Rice, Sr.),   aunt, Kathleen Boulware;  brother-in-law James (Ella Mae)Rice of Great Falls, SC, sister-in-law, Leatha (David) Sanders of Great Falls, SC;  a host of nieces and nephews;  special friends, Mary Lee Smalls, Marilyn Hughes, Eliza Boulware, Marion Banks and Mae Frances Roseboro;  devoted friend of the family Donald Glenn,  and a host of cousins and friends all of whom will miss her dearly.

 

Funeral service for Mrs. Barnell B. Rice of 310 College St. Winnsboro SC 29180 will be 1 pm Thursday October 1, 2020 @ Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home Chapel with burial @ Red Hill Baptist Church. Visitation will be Wednesday September 30, 2020 from 2 pm to 4 pm @ Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home Chapel.
