Mr. Wesley Friday Obituary

Celebrating the Life and Legacy of Mr. Wesley Friday

Wesley Friday affectionately known as “Wes” was born March 25, 1938 in Jenkinsville, S.C. to the late Samuel and Mattie Lou Thompson Friday. He transitioned into eternal rest on December 7, 2022.

Wesley joined and was baptized at Mt. Moriah Baptist Church at an early age. He was a faithful, lifetime member until the Lord called him home. He served as chairman of the Trustee Board for many years before retiring and becoming Trustee Emeritus.

He was educated in the Fairfield County School System where he graduated in the class of 1958 from McCrorey –Liston High School.

He was employed on various jobs with Richtex, DMV and where his heart was with SCE&G, where he was a supervisor and retired after 28 years of service.

Wesley was a humble and passionate “Giant”, and a great influencer in the Fairfield County community. Through his open heart and willingness to give, he opened his doors to all and everyone was welcome to eat at his table. He gave cheerfully from his garden whether it was cabbage, collards or green beans, whatever his green thumb touched grew in abundance. His positive attitude, smile and willing spirit was loved by all because he was always lending a helping hand, whether it was spiritually, mentally or physically.

Wesley leaves to cherish his precious memories: his children: Phillip Friday of Columbia, S.C., Jacqueline Smith of Jenkinsville, S.C., Linda (Thomas) Jennings of Columbia, S.C., adopted son, Jeffery (Phyllis) Brown of Blair, S.C., grandchildren, great-grands, his favorite niece, Brenda Suber of Columbia, S.C., three sister-in-law’s, Barbara Roberts of Columbia, S.C., Stella Wilson of Elgin, S.C. and Lenni Roberts of New Jersey, great nieces, great nephews and a host of other relatives and friends.

Wesley was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorothy Friday, parents, Samuel and Mattie Lou T. Friday, brothers, Johnny, Samuel JR., Benjamin, sisters, Ada Mae Parker, Ruby Ann Friday, and Louise Boykin and adopted children, Kenneth and Subrina Westberry.
