Mr. Walter Pickett was born on July 27, 1970, in Winnsboro SC to Ineeda Pickett and the late James Pickett. On Monday, May 16, 2022, the Lord looked down upon the earth and said enough my son you fought a hard fight and you have been through a lot over this year and it’s time to finish this course.
At an early age, Leon confessed to Jesus as his Lord and Savior and he became a member of Mt. Zion AME Church in Winnsboro, SC.
Leon graduated from the public schools of Fairfield County where he was a part of the graduating class of Fairfield Central High School Class of 1988. Upon graduating high school, Leon went to work at RichTech Brick. Leon then worked at Vulcan Materials for over 20 years throughout his life until his health declined.
To know Leon was to love him. He loved spending time with his family, and friends, fishing, grilling, and working on his cars. Leon and his loving wife have known each other for over 30 years and they have been married for 24 years. He never was a stranger to anyone and he treated everybody as if they were his family.
Leon is survived by his loving wife Sheila Kennedy Pickett, two daughters Kayla and Karla Pickett, his mother Ineeda Pickett; his brother Willie J (Ethel) Burrell, Mother-in-law Willie Mae Kennedy, Brother-in-laws Kelvin (Teresa) Kennedy, Vernon (Mandina) Kennedy, Joshua, and Justin Trapp. Sister-in-law Brenda Kennedy. Special cousins Lena and Ethel Cook. Aunts Minnie Cloud, Vivian Bailey, Regina Anderson, Kathy Bailey, and Diane (Reginald) Belton; Uncle Arthur (Barbara) Bailey; three nieces, seven nephews, a host of great-nieces/nephews, cousins, other relatives, and special friends.
He was proceeded in death by his father James Pickett, and aunt Mary Ellen “Patty” Pickett.
Funeral service will be 12 noon Saturday May 21, 2022 @ Calvary Baptist Church in Blythewood SC with burial @ Mt. Zion AME Church in Winnsboro SC. Visitation will be from 1 pm to 6 pm Friday May 20, 2022 @ Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home, 324 S. Vanderhorst St. Winnsboro SC 29180.
The family request that there be no visitation at the residence after 8:00 pm.
