Mr. Walter McCullough Jr. Obituary

For I am poured out like a drink of offering, and my departure has come. I fought a good fight on the battlefield and off the battlefield. Don’t weep for me because the storm is over.

Mr. Walter J. Jr. McCollough was the son of the late Walter James McCollough and Mrs. Vestina Curlee Byrd. He was born on June 8, 1941, in Salisbury North Carolina.

Walter was educated in the schools of Fairfield County in South Carolina. Served in the Military, U. S. Army. Walter lived much of his adult life in New York and Connecticut with periodic residency in Winnsboro, S. C. He was once employed at the Bronx, New York City Post Office and retired from Naps Brother's in Glastonbury, CT.

He once told us he was at a bar in New York and wrote the lyrics to the famous song, “You Sexy Thing (I Believe in Miracles)" but got drunk and 3 college students took his notes, and that song was created after that!!

Walter was a great father and a bonus father to ten children who adored him. He loved his family, friends, and those that were close to him. To know him you had to love him.

Walter leaves to cherish his precious memories, his son Trovan McCullough, (Bonus Children) Aaron Johnson, Shirley and Andrew Green, of Winnsboro, S. C., Lavern and Devon Hanson of Florida, Patricia and Ferlen Johnson of Columbia, S. C., Janice Johnson, Anthony Bernard Johnson, and Sheila Johnson of Winnsboro, S. C. (Brothers) Jeffery V. Byrd of Winnsboro, S. C., Jess F. Byrd Jr. and Charles Byrd both of Connecticut, sister, Ernestine B. Williams of Bristol Connecticut and a host of nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his stepfather, Jesse Fed Byrd Sr., Annie M. Curlee, Norma J. Jenkins, Theodosia Curlee, and brother Lawrence T. Byrd Sr., and the mother of his son Mrs. Alice Johnson.
