Robert Edward Trapp, affectionately known as “Gebo”, transitioned from his earthly home to his heavenly home at the age of 78, on Monday, October 13, 2025, at Prisma Richland Memorial Heart Hospital, Columbia, SC. Although he was the son of the late Johnnie Ruby Trapp Griffin and the late Cleveland Griffin, he was blessed to be reared in the home of his maternal grandparents, the late Allie Mae Trapp and the late Wallace “Candy” Trapp.
Gebo confessed and accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and became a member of Gethsemane Baptist Church, Blair, South Carolina; after a decline in health he became disabled and unable to attend.
Gebo attended the public schools of Fairfield County and was a 1966 graduate of McCrorey Liston High School in Blair, South Carolina, where he met his high school sweetheart, his wife, the late Martha “Mot” Trapp. After high school he joined the US Army in 1966. He was a Vietnam Veteran. After his return from the military, he was employed by Best Way, Cones Mill, Floral Daniels, SCE&G-VC Summers where he retired due to health issues. He served as a volunteer firefighter in Blair, South Carolina. Gebo was a member of the Silver Hill Masonic Lodge #128, and he was a member of the Blair Black Cowboys Club. He loved his community and people; he was always willing to help and encourage people in any capacity he could.
To know Gebo was to love him. He was the “World’s Best Father”, Big Brother, Grandad, Uncle, Cousin, Co-worker and Friend. He never met a stranger and always had a joke or story to tell. He brought joy and laughter to everyone he met. He was a fun-loving person, who loved to talk, he was outgoing, happy and upbeat with a smile, his positive presence was felt by all those who met him. He adored and loved his entire family. He also loved his Carolina football teams USC, Clemson and the Carolina Panthers. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Gebo was preceded in death by his wife Martha “Mot” Trapp, his daughter Rita Renea Trapp, his parents, grandparents, brother James Alfred Griffin, sister Stephanie Laverne Griffin, his brothers-in-law, Walter James Roseborough, Thomas Jason McConnell and Jessie James McConnell; a great friend Wade “Cliff” Coad.
Gebo leaves to cherish his loving memories to his family: his loving children, Crystal Clarisse Trapp, of the home; Tarrence Edward Trapp, Columbia, SC; loving niece (like a daughter) Sherry (Kenneth) Davis, White Plains, Maryland; God granddaughter, Darissa J. Stone; god great-grandson Karmelo A. Wadsworth, Jenkinsville, SC; four sisters: Beverly Henderson, Sheila English; and Debbie Griffin, all of Blair, SC and Sharon L. Griffin of Columbia, SC, two brothers, Clarence J. Griffin, Atlanta, Georgia; Clemente Griffin, Winnsboro, SC; a loving cousin (like a brother) Clarence (Evenny) Lyles and a loving and caring mother-in-law, Carrie Louise Williams McConnell, Winnsboro, SC; four sisters- in-law: Delois Ann Roseborough, Winnsboro, SC, Callie McConnell, Chester, SC, Elizabeth Coleman, Mary Ruth McConnell, both of Blair, SC and two brothers-in-law, Willie Earl McConnell, Chester, SC; and Luther Hughes, Blair, SC; one aunt Naomi Trapp of Cleveland, Ohio; honorary granddaughters Iyanna Purnell Fluker and Courtney Epps Hopkins of Irmo, SC. Gebo will be missed by a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends.
