Mr. Richard Harrison Obituary

 Richard Alexander Harrison, was born in Winnsboro, South Carolina on February 27,1938 to the late Nick and Gertrude Harrison. He entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, January 25, 2023.
Richard was married to the late Shirley Holloway Harrison and from this union came three sons Richard Holloway of Columbia, SC, Johnny(Arlene) Harrison of Winnsboro, SC, and Joe Louis
Harrison of Columbia, SC along with three daughters Linda(James) Walker of Winnsboro, SC, Wynette Holloway of Hartford, CT, and the late Ernestine Harrison.

Richard received his education from the public schools of Fairfield County. He joined the US Army on March 2, 1956 at the tender age of 18. Richard was apart of the parachute unit, jumping out of airplanes. He served 3 years until he was honorably discharged. Richard went on earning a living as a boxer. He started off as an amateur boxer with a record of 25-0. He was of the top 25 in his division. Richard was said to have had lethal hands. He would knock out his contenders. He trained along side Muhammad Ali, Archie Moore, and Floyd Patterson to name a few. Richard went Pro holding a record of approximately 40 wins and 5 losses. After his boxing career, Richard became a master mechanic.

Those who will forever cherish his fond and precious memories are his three brothers Rev. David Harrison of W. Columbia, Ulysee (Lisa) Harrison of Winnsboro, SC, Bobby (Anna) Harrison
of Waterbury, CT; one sister Betty J.(James) Able of Ridgeway, SC; twelve grandchildren, twenty-two great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other loving relatives and
dear friends, all of whom join the family in sharing the grief caused by his departure,but rejoice that he is now resting with the Lord. 

   
In addition to his parents, daughter, and wife, he was preceded in death by six brothers Willie E. Harrison, Nick E. Harrison, Thomas Harrison, James Robertson, Chambers Harrison, and Frank
Harrison; Also, three sisters Johnnie Mae Harrison, Melvina Cotton, and Minnie Martin.

Funeral service will be 2 pm Friday February 3, 2023 @ Russell-McCutchen Funeral Home Chapel, 324 S. Vanderhorst St. Winnsboro SC 29180. Burial will be 1 pm Monday February 6,2023 @ Fort Jackson National Cemetery. Visitation will be from 2 pm to 5 pm Thursday February 2, 2023 @ the funeral home.
