Mr. Matthew Archie Obituary

Matthew Lamont Archie was born on February 3, 1966, at Mt. Sinai Hospital in New York City. He was the youngest of three sons born to Berlene and Horace Archie.

Lamont spent his early years in New York City where he and his brother Eric attended primary schools. In the early 70s, the family moved back home to South Carolina, after living in New York for 13 years and settled in Columbia. It was in Columbia where Lamont spent his teenage and young adult years, earning his High School Degree from Eau Clare High School. Lamont pursued opportunities in several areas beyond his high school years. He spent a short time in the military before pursuing training in Mortuary Science at Fayetteville State College in North Carolina. He also spent time working with several local businesses in the Columbia area.

Like his mother, Lamont can be characterized as a young man who had ambition and a desire to work and earn money without creating a burden for others. He was also very generous and was always willing to help others. He was a very good friend to many.

In the early 2000s Lamont moved to Miami, Florida. He worked for a number of years in support of a family in the business of property renovations and quickly became a good friend to his employers. He often spoke of their relationship stating that they looked after him and treated him like family. He also developed many other friendships in Miami. The community where he lived embraced Lamont and loved him. His friends in Miami called him LA. They consistently and lovingly provided support to LA whenever he needed it. His Miami friends ensured he always stayed in contact with his family in South Carolina which his South Carolina Family greatly appreciated.

Lamont will always be remembered for his generous and kind heart, his fun-loving sprit and his love of family. He would always conclude his calls to his family back home with the words I love you and please don’t forget me. Lamont will be missed by many and never, ever forgotten.

He leaves behind to cherish his memories brothers Jeff (of Chapin) and Eric (of Columbia), his father Horace (of Columbia), and a host of aunts, uncles and cousins.

A memorial graveside service will be 11 am Saturday February 11, 2023 @ St. Peter Community Church cemetery.
