Charles Edward Harrison, the beloved eldest son of the late Richard and Katie Harrison, passed away peacefully at the age of 86 on July 12, 2024. Born on December 18, 1937, in Winnsboro, SC, Charles lived a full and accomplished life deeply rooted in his faith and family.
A distinguished student, Charles was educated in the Fairfield County schools and graduated as the valedictorian of Fairfield High School, Class of 1955. He was a member of the Fairfield Alumni Association and was especially proud of the 30th anniversary class reunion.
After serving his country honorably in the US Army from 1960 to 1962, Charles embarked on a 47-year career with US Rubber/Uniroyal, now Michelin Tire, winning a number of awards and rising to the level of warehouse supervisor.
During his time in the Army, Charles met his beloved wife, Ella Mae Brown in Baltimore, MD. They were married on August 19, 1967 and shared almost 57 wonderful years of marriage. During their union, they were blessed with one son, Byron.
Charles was a man of deep faith and dedicated to his church community. In 1988, he joined Blackjack Baptist Church, where his passion for teaching and sharing the Word of God was evident through his many years as a Sunday School teacher, leader of the Adult Bible Study, and as trustee. In 1993, Charles was ordained as a Deacon at the church, a role in which he served with unwavering dedication and humility until his passing.
Charles was preceded in death by his parents, three brothers, and seven sisters.
Charles leaves to cherish his loving memory: his wife, Mae; son, Byron (Kristin); grandchildren, Zachary and Wesley; brothers, George (Lucy), Douglas (Sallie), Bobby (Doris); niece Ava Grier (Joe) who was raised like a sister, and a host of wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, and a loving church family.
Charles Harrison’s legacy will live on through his family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know him. His life was a testament to hard work, love, and service, and he will be dearly missed.
